Joan Cook retired from the senate on October 6.
The Chretien-era appointee hit the magic age to retire from what used to be known as the Antechamber to the Kingdom of Heaven. Used to be the only way most senators left the job and its lovely salary was to die.
That means there is a vacancy from Newfoundland and Labrador just waiting to be filled by Stephen Harper.
Who will get it?
There’s a good question.

What's Loyola Hearn been up recently?
Rex Murphy please
If I was Harper I'd pick John Efford or Brian Tobin, just to piss WIlliams off.
But really, you could pick the Moon Man for all the difference it would make.
Loyola Hearn?
Loyola Sullivan?
Trevor Taylor?
Of course, if the objective is to get under the Taoseach's skin, PM Harper could appoint Roger Grimes.
Ward, you stole my idea!
It will be Hearn.
Senator Westcott?
If Steve wanted to put something up Danny's nose, that's the appointment to make.
Surely, if Danny wanted to mess with Harper's mind, he would hold an election for Senator.
Norm Doyle?
Senator Randy Simms
Senator No Names
Senator Ed Byrne
Senator Paul Oram
Senator Moose from Irving
Lono....Lono for Senator
or maybe Bernie Davis.
But rex murphy as good of a suggestion as it is i doubt he would take is he makes more at cbc
I'm guessing Norm Doyle as well.
Maureen Williams.
Andy Wells
