New Year’s Contest: name the new NL senator

So parliament will start anew in the New Year and all the empty seats in the senate will have new bums to fill them.

Who do you think will get the nod?

Who do you think should get the job, if it wasn’t a partisan wank-fest?

Drop a name in a comment space. See if you can beat some of the suggestions on a post from last October.

Don't you just love contests...

The bookies have the two Lloyola's as the front runners. With the retirement of two NL women from the Chamber, I also expect that a woman will be chosen.

Could we see a St. John's byelection to replace Senator Shannie?

God help us but how 'bout Lynn Verge. She seems persona non grata to DW and company so that would seem logical for Harper.

Debbie Powers would be a great choice. Her son has forged many good realtions on the Hill so it could be a good fit.

Is their a prize Ed?

Theres a good chance a Loyola will get the job but a name I heard mentioned that I thought was interesting was Elizabeth Marshall. Unlike most Newfoundlanders and Labradorians she supported the Conservatives in 2008, even though they screwed over the province, which could help her win the coveted seat. I love the idea of Senator Shannie though, St. John's could get a good deputy mayor and the province wouldn't have to wait to long before a Liberal senator replaces her.
