“And other media are now reporting…”

Add that one to your collection of great quotes that ring a little tinny.

The truth is that other media had the story first and were reporting all of it – including the American bit – before anyone else including the guy who said those immortal words.

That line is nothing however compared to this one from a Canadian Press story filed out of Halifax:

"I want to resist the temptation to say that somehow the political culture here is underdeveloped and people are all just dupes of this man. I refuse to entertain that kind of interpretation."

Yes, Michael Temelini is refusing to entertain the interpretation but apparently he is willing to buy it a few drinks and introduce it to some casual acquaintances.

Sounds like Mr. T. is trying to convince himself or something.

i can sympathize with him. must be frustrating to come here, expect to help things change and be met with a corrupt theocracy run by a bunch of overpaid bureaucrats hiding behind a complicit court system.

must seem like the third world coming from his last posting (where ever in the first world that was).

i've heard others proclaim its kinda like the 1950's around here, politically and culturally.

as far as being a bunch of dupes, i'd say more a 50/50 mix of complicit & non-compliant actors, tossed in with a stout bunch who have totally lost faith in a political system so farcical as to be the only form of entertainment worth propping up.

What about those whose allegiance could never be bought — but can be rented, if the rate is to their liking?

Well, Lone it's not likely you can actually change anything when you start out by joining the Cult of Personality.

People actually familiar with the local scene (which Michael wasn't and likely still isn't) have commented on a great many similarities between the current situation and things in the 1950s and 1960s here and in Quebec.

Maybe Temelini is just describing the notion and not advocating it.....

Could be.

Much like that thing on the south coast could have been a time-traveling French missile.

Sorry to poach your territory, John.
