Ken Dryden dropped in to Corner Brook last weekend to endorse his old chief of staff – Mark Watton – who is running in the by-election to fill the vacancy in the House of Assembly by Danny Williams’ abrupt departure.
Watton is a Liberal, in case that wasn’t obvious.
Seems some provincial Conservative supporters are a bit spooked by Dryden’s visit and, by extension, by Watton’s chances. Here’s an example of Twitter comments by one passionate provincial Conservative on Tuesday night:
Unable to recruit local volunteers or what?…what does Ken Dryden know about the issues facing Corner Brookers? …I'd rather someone who had known where Corner Brook was located prior to visiting.
To quote a great conservative thinker, what a terrible thing it is to lose ones mind. Those of you who know the original quote – before Dan Quayle babel-fished it – will get the point.

It would appear that Mark has all the Habs fans locked up!
Let`s hope that he keeps his volunteers together for October and that he has Leadership aspirations.
I guess a quick tweet back asking what the issues are in CB ..would be the first response. Then a quick tweet to the Tory asking him what he would do.
Seeing you like my predictions ed...here`s another one.
The Cons will see the latest District poll and realize that things are slipping. Then we will have DW doing a day at Marble Mountain armed with his googgles and campaign buttons.
What do you thinkÉ
Well, I think this could be the tweet of the week but I am posting it early. There is still plenty of time for the Tories to say something truly stupid.
You guys remind me of Statler and Waldorf. I love it.
And with that thought, Denise, I won't be giving Murph another ounce of attention/credibility.
Will he arrive by Winnebago?
The theme or gist of these political campaigns is not representative of "competitiveness and may the best man win" ,but, something more troubling and murky .
Well this is a good time to flick out a favorite Waldorf and Statler line....don't mention it Denise!
"What did you think of that? I liked it! Ugh! You?! Uuuugh! (Bangs head on balcony edge three times) YOU… LIKED… THAT?! No… I just wanted to see what you did if I said I did
@ Wally
no the Winnibego is being used by Chick Shulock (sp?)travelling his District. Might as well bring the "kitchen" to the dissenters. Then the RV is off to follow Graham Letto's road show!
Conservatives travelling by caravan is an old idea, Wallace.
Frank Moores travelled in a camper in the early days and financed his own campaigns out of personal funds. Okay. So some things have changed.
Remember Steve Kent a decade ago camping in his camper on the corner of Commonwealth and Park Avenues??
That was back when he was a Liberal. Or maybe a Canadian Alliance member... I can't remember...
