Zombie TV

So Jay Leno is going back to late night television, thereby displacing Conan and Jimmy and undoing the great change that NBC brought to television last fall.

Globe television critic John Doyle puts it down to a guy thing.

maybe it’s much simpler.

Maybe NBC’s great cock-up is based on the mistaken idea held by the geniuses at NBC that people might find Jay Leno funny when they were awake.

It’s times like this that the words of Bobcat Goldthwaite must come back to people.  He was banned from the Tonight Show early in Leno’s tenure in the chair after setting the set alight.  Literally.

As Bobcat sarcastically joked about the incident afterward, it was the only time that the words “on fire” and “the Tonight Show” were used in the same sentence once Leno took over the spot once occupied by Johnny Carson.

Turns out he was right.

Maybe with Sara Palin on their roster, FOX will make a move.
The fact that NBC is at the bottom in the ratings pool can, in no way be attributed to Jay Leno. David Letterman jumped into the lead in the 11:30 time slot only because Jay Leno wasn't there.
I was a Johnny Carson fan and Leno is no Carson.
Rumour has it that Conan may go to FOX.
With O'Reilly, Hannity, Shepard and Palin, what other comedic relief can FOX bring with Conan O'Brien?

With Conan, they'd get better jokes.

Leno isn't the cause of NBC's poor ratings performance overall, he's just the cause of his own problem.

Anything that was on at 10 PM Eastern was infinitely preferable to Leno.

And at 1130, people who like Letterman will watch Letterman as they always have.

Seriously?
Better than Sara Palin?
Letterman's apology to Palin and his subsequent jokes about her, drove his ratings even more than his admitted marital transgressions. I watched because the alternative was Conan O'Brien
Those who watched Letterman are still watching Letterman. The only difference now is, many of Leno's fans have joined because Conan just doesn't cut it. He is even more annoying than Letterman.
Anyway Ed, I think I will stay with Family Guy. For laughs, late night TV is not what it used to be.
