"Confederation is in danger": Cleary

Ryan Cleary, New Democratic Party, St. John's South-Mount Pearl, on his election blog:

“Confederation is in danger,” I said.

“Jack Layton, Jack Harris and myself can bring it back to safe ground.”

Ryan Cleary, editor of The Independent, May 2008:

I don’t want to seem ungrateful, but now that we’re rolling in the cash it may be time to consider breaking away from the country of Canada. If we’re teetering on the edge of economic independence anyway, why not go all the way and raise the Pink, White and Green outside Confederation Building?

Ummmm.

Which one are we supposed to believe is how Ryan really feels?

St. John's South- Mount Pearl, I take it you mean?

I've already pointed out that, all things considered Coady should take it so I don't think that seat will be any more interesting to watch than St. John's East. The only real question mark is in Avalon.

I also know that the Dippers have some vague feeling they have a shot at it. Maybe they do. Certainly, Ryan would appeal to those hard core Blue people who still haven't gotten over 1949.

The undecideds in the South are made up entirely of closeted Blue people. That's exactly like the East. What's put Jack so far ahead is the collapse of the Red vote. The Blues are still in the closet, for the most part.

Ryan Cleary, Captain Canada.

Wow.

Bizarre idea, isn't it?

The guy whose editorial policy at the Indy was the NL First party's entire platform now holds himself out as someone fighting for Confederation.

Dale, do you just make this stuff up on the spur of the moment or does it involve some sort of process?

Dale:

Two things.

1. It isn't my Outhouse press release, although you may be chuckling at your supposed wittiness. I didn't write it. I had nothing to do with it.

2. By Coady's latest leaflet, I dunno what you mean. Since I live in her riding, I got her latest householder. It's a small postcard sized thingy which lists off major issues on one column and a resume of her biography on the other.

There's no reference to your man Jack at all.

There's also no reference to your man Ryan.

What exactly did you mean?
