Of pipelines and such

1.  Chevron and its Caspian pipeline partners are going to drop $5.4 billion to double the capacity of a pipeline bringing crude out of its Caspian Sea production operation. The line will be able to move 1.4 million barrels of oil per day when the project is finished.

2.  The federal government will drop as much as $18 million into a $24 million natural gas pipeline project between Vallee Jonction and Thetford Mines Quebec.

How come the Feds are contributing to 75% of the cost of this project in Quebec, while at the same time Quebec objects to the Feds contributing anything to the Lower Churchill project?

No one said there had to be consistency.

And by the same token you might ask why a provincial government that claims it wants to go it alone and that professes to believe in autonomy wants to get a federal hand-out for the transmission and is looking for federal cash to help build the generating capacity.

Ed, you have just described Quebec's philosophy perfectly. Why should they get any handouts?

Edward Hollett said...

The Quebec provincial government isn't getting this handout.

What's your point?

Everett said...

Right you are. It's a business entity based in Quebec that's getting the handout, & it will benefit the residents of Quebec. Maybe this company is getting this handout just because it's based in Quebec.

I wonder how many NL based companies have received handouts totalling 75% of their project cost?

I didn't mean anything personal to you Ed, & I'm sorry that you took it that way with your blunt "What's your point?"

Edward Hollett said...

I simply asked that you make your point. I never understood why some people can't make a point simply and instead have to try to suggest something indirectly or implicitly.

Yes, it is a private sector company getting the financial assistance, not the Quebec provincial government. There is a difference. And the answer to your question is simple: plenty over the years.

Incidentally, do you think that the provincial government here didn't at one point oppose the federal government getting involved in hydro transmission and controlling hydro transmission between provinces just as Quebec has for most of the last half century?

Exactly Ed! I didn't understand why you did this article with links to 2 news stories. I thought I was reading the latest breaking news from The Telegram, & not some blog. You referred to the 2 stories, without making a point simply, & I thought you were trying to suggest something indirectly or implicitly.

Stupid me!

Wow, Everett, that's amazing. You just did a perfect Murhyism, right down to the quote copying bit.

Are you test driving a new fake identity after another prolonged absence, Murph? That would be the same MO as the last time you switched names.

The Internet is such a weird place: all these people who are supposedly different one from the other write things using exactly the same style and the same words.

But anyway, just so that you know, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Here were two energy stories I thought were interesting.

Everett said...

No, I'm not Murphy, but actually a fairly new reader, who might not comment too often since you take great umbrage with those who don't agree 100% with you.

I agree that the 2 energy stories are interesting; otherwise I would not have read them.

Have a good night Ed, & smile :)

The only thing I can't tolerate is bullshit.

Unfortunately, some people tend to think that a simple straight up question is blunt and therefore somehow reflects some kind of personal offence. Nothing could be further from the truth, as someone once said.

So unless you start spouting bullshit, you shouldbe alright. Just expect to have ideas challenged.

But fair warning: people with one name and a closed profile who are basically anonymous are starting with a huge credibility deficit. Just think about that is all i am saying. There are a raft of sock puppets out there and frankly, odds are you are just another one come to add to the laundry basket, at least until you do something to demonstrate otherwise.

Thanks for thinking of me Ed....gush!
Sorry about the "prolonged absence"...I'll try to pick up the pace.

Everret..if you think Ed takes great umbrage about things he doesn't agree with...you should ask him questions about the Liberal Party in the province. Also in order to avoid the Ed bullshit meter, it is important to read the Greatest Hits of this blog. Just saying!

Edward Hollett said...

Well, as far as bullshit goes, Murphy is the expert so if you want to master the art of complete turd tossing he's the one to emulate. As it seems though you already have his style down so the rest should come easily.

Now I guess the only thing else left is for Cain to magically reappear. It is sort of like conjuring imps: mention their names three times and they appear. only difference is they are more like Gilbert and Sullivan imps rather than "Supernatural".

Everett...just check out the response or non response to these questions.

How is the Liberal party doing in the organization of District Associations?
How is the Liberal Party in preparing for the upcoming by-election?

Now sit back and listen to the silence or better yet read the classic bob and weave that Ed has mastered

Ed said to me "The only thing I can't tolerate is bullshit."

From reading your blog, here are two other things you can't tolerate:
1.Anything related to the PC's
2.Anybody who questions anything you say

To Wm. Murphy, I have noticed how Ed responds to, or ignores your questions on certain items.
It's very easy to see what Ed's agenda is. I have also noticed that if it were not for you, & a few supporters that Ed has, there would be no comments at all on Ed's blogs. You'd think that Ed would be glad to get some feedback, no matter where it comes from.

Last night he told me that I did a perfect Murhyism (I think he meant Murphyism or Murphism). I also think that he was insulting both of us. It is what it is.

With the death of former Mayor John Murphy yesterday, Ed's reactions to those who do not agree with him, reminds me of the one and only Andy Wells.

I will now sit back, & await the inevitable scathing response. Give 'er Ed.

Edward Hollett said...

Well, you've obviously got it all figured out. There's nothing I could add to that.
